(gs) What is an "Access Domain"?

  • Applies to: (gs)

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Time needed: 5 minutes

  • Tools needed: None

This article explains Access Domains, and what they are commonly used for.

DETAILS:

The Access Domain is a unique hostname that assigned to each (gs) Grid-Service. It will look something like this:

s#####.gridserver.com

'####' is used as an example and would be replaced the unique 'site number' of your (gs) Grid-Service.

The site number is a unique number assigned to each (gs) Grid-Service and sent in the 'Service Activation Letter' email. It is also located in the Server Guide, which is available in your AccountCenter.

The Access Domain can be used to view your website prior to DNS propagation. This is also handy for users who already have a domain name and would like to test out their website before pointing DNS over to their (mt) Media Temple (gs) Grid-Service.

Examples:
http://alt-example.com.s#####.gridserver.com
http://sub.alt-example.com.s#####.gridserver.com
