Using the Upgrade Server tool
Overview
This article explains how to upgrade or downgrade your (mt) Media Temple server.
The (gs) Grid-Service Lite was offered as a holiday gift-giving promotion. This article will guide you through upgrading your (gs) Grid-Service Lite to the full (gs) Grid-Service.

Instructions
- Sign in to the AccountCenter and click on your primary domain.
- Click on the Admin button to access your Control Panel.

Select the icon Upgrade Server, see Figure 1.

This screen will allow you to select the full-version (gs) Grid-Service, and the service terms for which your new service will be billed. See Figure 2.

Upgrade server level
- Sign into your AccountCenter.
- Click on your primary domain.

Click on Upgrade Server.

Choose to upgrade (or downgrade) your server between 512 MB to 16 GB. See http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/pricing.php for details.
Click next.

Confirm the charges to your account and click next. Note: You will be charged (or refunded) the amount remaining for this month, as well as the amount for the next month.

- Once the charge has gone through, the new resources will be allocated to your server automatically. If you upgraded just your RAM, you're done.
Purchase secondary server
If you require more resources than a (dv) 16 GB, but don't quite need a (dpv) Nitro, consider purchasing a second (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server. Many customers will host databases on one server, and serve web pages from another.

If you are interested in an upgrade because of memory over-use on your existing server, and want to double-check the actual numbers you're working with, read on:

Upgrade server level or purchase RAM
- Sign into your AccountCenter.
- Click on your primary domain.

Click on Upgrade Server.

Choose to upgrade (or downgrade) your server between the Base, Rage, and Extreme.
Or purchase a RAM add-on.

Click next.

- Once the charge has gone through, the new resources will be allocated to your server automatically. If you upgraded just your RAM, you're done.

Memory resources by server

(dv) Base
- RAM: 512 MB
- CPU-time: 6% of one core of a quad-core processor

(dv) Rage
- RAM: 1 GB
- CPU-time: 12% of one core of a quad-core processor

(dv) Extreme
- RAM: 2 GB
- CPU-time: 18% of one core of a quad-core processor
Instructions
- Sign in to the AccountCenter and click on your primary domain.

Click on Upgrade Server. See Figure 1:

Select your new server plan. See Figure 2:

You also have the option to purchase one or more Snapshot Backups. This will back up your entire server (just make sure you fill the backup slot with data once your order is complete). Choose at least two if you want to be able to rotate them. See Figure 3:

Then, click next.

In most cases, you will now be able to review the charges on your account and approve the upgrade. Your new server resources should be available within twenty minutes. Charges will reflect a prorated amount for the rest of your current billing cycle, plus the amount for the next full month.
This is the last step in most cases. If more dialogue comes up, continue.

If you have selected a server upgrade larger than your current physical host machine can accomodate, you will see the following dialogue. Figure 4:

We'll handle all of the data transfer automatically. Review the details regarding the migration, then click Continue.
- If the new server is in the same IP block, you will now be prompted to select a date and time (Pacific Time). Do so, then click Set up migration. Your migration will proceed as scheduled.

If the new server is in a new IP block, you will see some additional information. Figure 5:

Then, click Set up migration.
- Your migration is now scheduled for the time you selected. You will also see any new IP addresses you have been assigned.
- The migration will proceed at the selected time. It may take several hours to finish. Your server will be online for the entire initial migration process, though it will be shut down briefly at the end for a final sync-up.
That's it. Your server should now be fully upgraded (and possibly migrated to a new host machine) with all of your new resources.
