HOWTO: Change or update various account passwords

AccountCenter contacts

  1. Log into your AccountCenter.
  2. Choose Show All from the Contacts tab.
  3. Click Edit for any contact whose password you wish to change.
  4. Enter a new password and click Save.

Server Administrator FTP/SSH user

  1. Log into your AccountCenter.
  2. Choose your primary domain from the domains tab.
  3. Click on Server Administrator.
  4. Click on Change Password.
  5. Enter a new password and click Save.

Plesk administrator

  1. Log into your AccountCenter.
  2. Click on the primary domain for your (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server.
  3. Click on Change Plesk Password.
  4. Type in your new password then click on Change Password.

Email/Additional FTP users

  1. Log into your AccountCenter.
  2. Choose your primary domain from the domains tab.
  3. Click on Email Users.
  4. Click Edit for any email/FTP user whose password you wish to change.
  5. Enter a new password and click Save.

Email users

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on Users.
  3. Click on the email user for which you want to change the password.
  4. Under Panel Preferences, enter your new password twice.
  5. Click OK and now you are done.

  1. Log into Plesk.
  2. Click on Domains.
  3. Click on the domain.
  4. Click on Email.
  5. Find the email address and click on edit.
  6. Change your password, then click on save at the bottom. Be sure to use a strong password.

CAUTION:

Changing your email password may sever the communication between your email client (i.e. Apple Mail, Outlook, etc.) and the mail server. If you change the password, you must also update your email client's configuration with the new password.

FTP users

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on Websites & Domains.
  3. Click on the FTP user for which you want to change the password.
  4. Enter your new password twice.
  5. Click OK and now you are done.

Root user

  1. Log into your AccountCenter and select your (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server from the Domains drop-down menu. Alternately, from the Overview tab, click the Admin button to the right of your primary domain.
  2. Click on the Root Access & Developer Tools button:

  3. Click on Change Root Access:

  4. Enter and confirm your password after agreeing to the warning prompt. Use a password that is "strong" enough to pass our strength test as shown below and click Change:

  5. You now have changed your root password for your server!

Database users

  1. Log into your AccountCenter.
  2. Choose your primary domain from the domains tab.
  3. Click on Manage Databases.
  4. Click on the Global Settings tab.
  5. Now you should see a section labeled Manage Database Users.
  6. Click change for any user whose password you wish to change.
  7. Click Save and now you are done.

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on Websites & Domains.
  3. Click on Databases.
  4. Select the database.
  5. Users associated with your database will be listed.
  6. Click on the user.
  7. Enter your new password twice.
  8. Click OK and now you are done.

  1. Log into Plesk.
  2. Click on Domains on the left.
  3. Click on your domain.
  4. Click on Databases and select your database.
  5. Edit your user details, then click OK:
    • Database user name: The username for accessing this database.
    • Old password: None.
    • New password: The password for accessing this database.
    • Confirm password: Type the same password.
  6. Now, you can access phpMyAdmin for this database, if you want to. Click on DB WebAdmin. You may have to enable popups in your browser for this site.
  7. You also now have all of the necessary information for your database connection script and/or CMS:
    • Host: localhost
    • Database name: The database name you created in Step 5.
    • Username: The username you created in Step 7.
    • Password: The password you created in Step 7.

CAUTION:

If you update the password for an existing database user, you must update it in any files or applications that use the old password. If you're not sure how to do this, you may want to create a new database user for your current project. The new database user will have the format db00000_username.
