Overview

Plesk allows IP addresses to be either shared or exclusive. This determines whether more than one of your Plesk subscriptionsPlesk Clients can use the same IP address or not. It does NOT determine the number of domains on the IP, or whether it can have an SSL Certificate.

End of Life Warning

This service has a pending End of Life. Please move to a current service as soon as possible. For more information, please see: (dv) Dedicated-Virtual 4.0: Migration Information.

Troubleshooting

NOTE:

If a domain is on an exclusive IP address and has SSL Support enabled, you will not be able to change the IP address from Exclusive to Shared, even if there is no SSL certificate installed on the domain. To change the IP address to shared, you will have to disable the SSL support for the domain first before you can change the setting to shared.

If you receive this error:

  • Error: Cannot change the type of IP address already allocated to a user. IP address 205.186.149.110 is already allocated to user(s) as exclusive IP address.
  • Error: Cannot change the type of IP address already allocated to a user. IP address 205.186.149.110 is already allocated to user(s) as shared IP address.

Reseller options

You must have the Server Administration Panel enabled. For instructions, please see: How can I change my Plesk interface?

You need to change your IP settings in your Reseller options.

  1. Log into the Server Administration Panel. See Figure 7:

    Plesk 11 Server Administration Panel
    Figure 7: Server Administration Panel

  2. Click on Resellers on the left.
  3. Click on your reseller in the list. You may have to check each of them until you find the one with the IP in question.
  4. Click on IP Addresses at the top.
  5. From here, you will see a list of the IPs belonging to this reseller.

You may be able to change it from exclusive to shared or vice versa. Or, you can simply remove it from the list temporarily by clicking on the check box next to the IP, then clicking Remove IP Address at the top. Note that this may be disruptive.

You should now be able to change the settings for your IP(s).

Manual troubleshooting (unsupported)

You can manually change the settings for your IP address in the Plesk database.
