(dv) 3.x: Proper usage of email login credentials in an external Email application.

  • Applies to: (dpv) Nitro, (dv) 3.0, (dv) 3.5

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Time needed: 5 minutes

  • Tools needed: None

If you are having problems connecting an external email program (such as Outlook, Apple Mail, or Mozilla Thunderbird) to your email account on your (dv) Dedicated-Virtual v3.x Server, please make sure that you are using the full email address as the user name. This applies to both sending and receiving email.

This is the default and RECOMMENDED behavior of the Plesk email system. However, if you would like to allow authenticating with the short name (username) instead of the full name (username@mt-example.com) in your email client software, you can change this setting within Plesk.

  1. First, log in to your Plesk server
  2. Click on Server
  3. Click on Mail
  4. Look under the section 'Names for POP3/IMAP mail accounts' under the 'Preferences' tab. There, you will be able to toggle this setting.
