Maximum email message size
Limits
The (gs) Grid-Service imposes the following size limitations on outgoing email:
- Through local mail client: 50 MB total, including message and attachment(s).
-
Through webmail: 10 MB total, including message and attachment(s),
AND 2 MB limit per attachment.
For example, you could compose a message in webmail with up to four 2-MB attachments, if your email message itself is less than 2 MB.
Symptoms
If you try to send an email that exceeds these limits, you may receive a message similar to the following:
- Server Response: '552.5.2.3 Message exceeds maximum fixed size (10485760)'
- Your message has size 137 MB, which exceeds 50.0 MB, the maximum allowed by the server.
Sending larger files
If you need to send larger files, try using FTP to upload the file to your server, then share the link. You can also password-protect the directory where you upload the file to keep it private.
Alternately, if you must habitually send large files via email, you may want to look into a (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server or (ve) Server, where you can customize your mail server limits.
