What is a "Client" in Plesk?
Overview
The Client feature in Plesk allows you to create one or more Plesk user accounts with access to specific domains, email addresses, and other server resources.
You must create at least one Client for your own use before you can add any domains to your server. You should have the option to automatically create the "My Domains" Client when you first set up Plesk, but you can also add your personal Client later.
The real strength of this tool becomes apparent, however, when you configure multiple clients to each have access to specific domains. This is especially useful if you are using your (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server for reseller hosting.
End of Life Warning
This service has a pending End of Life. Please move to a current service as soon as possible. For more information, please see: (dv) Dedicated-Virtual 4.0: Migration Information.
Instructions
Creating a Client
- Sign into Plesk as the admin or root user.
- Click on the Clients tab in the left column.
- Click on Add New Client Account.
-
Fill out the Client information. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
Then click OK. If this is a secondary Client, select Proceed to configuring client's IP pool before you click OK.
If this option is grayed out or you cannot select it, this means you have no shared IP addresses set up on your server, or you have no available exclusive IP addresses left. The easiest thing to do in this case is to set one of your IP addresses to be shared and then continue with setting up the Client. Alternately, you can continue setting up the Client now. When you have another IP address available, follow the instructions in the Configuring a Client section below to access the IP Pool settings again.
-
If this is your first Client, you will automatically be taken to configure the Client's IP Pool. This is the list of IP addresses on the server to which this Client has access. Click and highlight any IP addresses in the left column that you want to add for this client, then click Add, so that the address(es) appear in the Client's IP pool on the right.
Click OK.
- You can now configure your Client. See the next section for additional details.
- Once your Client is configured, you will be able to add a domain to your server under this Client with our Adding a Domain within Plesk article. The new Client will appear in the list of Clients under which you can add domains.
