Using Cyberduck for FTP/SFTP

Cyberduck is an open-source application used for FTP and SFTP on Mac OS X. It can be used to connect to any of (mt) Media Temple services. The first thing you need to do is download a copy at http://cyberduck.ch/. Please follow the installation steps to install the application on your computer.

NOTE:

  • Text in this color is used as an example. Please be sure to replace this text with the proper information for your site or server.
  • The following tutorial is provided as a courtesy to our customers to help you configure your ftp software to work with (mt) Media Temple's hosting solutions.
  • Third-party software can not be supported directly by (mt) Media Temple. If you have further questions about configuring Cyberduck please visit http://cyberduck.ch/help/en/

Once installed we can now create a bookmark.
  1. Click on the + sign at the bottom left corner to create a bookmark:

    add_bookmark 


  2. Use the following settings (the example below will work for the (gs) platform):

    cyberduck_settings
    Nickname:
    (gs) - s#####.gridserver.com
    (ss) - mt-example.com
    (dv) - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Protocol: FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

    Server:
    (gs) - s#####.gridserver.com
    (ss) - ss##.shared.server-system.net
    (dv) - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Port: 21 for FTP, 22 for SFTP

    Username:
    (gs) - serveradmin@mt-example.com
    (ss) - mt-example.com
    (dv) - username

  3. Under More Options change the following:

    Path (optional): Please see system paths

    Connect Mode: Passive

    Encoding: Default

    Download Folder: Choose a folder on your computer you wish to download files.

    Transfer Files: Default

    Web URL: mt-example.com

    Notes (optional): N/A

  4. Save and then double-click on the bookmark to connect.
