Using Transmit for FTP/SFTP

Transmit is a Mac OS X application used for FTP and SFTP. The first thing you'll need to do is download a copy of Transmit at http://www.panic.com/transmit/. Please follow the installation steps to install the application on your computer.

NOTE:

  • Text in this color is used as an example. Please be sure to replace this text with the proper information for your site or server.
  • The following tutorial is provided as a courtesy to our customers to help you configure your ftp software to work with (mt) Media Temple's hosting solutions.
  • Third-party software can not be supported directly by (mt) Media Temple. If you have further questions about configuring Transmit please visit http://www.panic.com/transmit/support.html

Once installed you can then create a favorite for your FTP settings.
  1. Click on Favorites, then click on the + sign to create a Collection.

  2. Click on the + sign to create the favorite within the Collection.

  3. Fill out the following settings (the example below will work for the (gs) platform):

    Nickname:
    (gs) - s#####.gridserver.com
    (ss) - mt-example.com
    (dv) - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    Server:
    (gs) - s#####.gridserver.com
    (ss) - ss##.shared.server-system.net
    (dv) - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    User Name:
    (gs) - serveradmin@mt-example.com
    (ss) - mt-example.com
    (dv) - username

    Password:
    (gs) - Please see Server Administrator in your AccountCenter.
    (ss) - Please see Server Details in AccountCenter.
    (dv) - Click Setup under Hosting for your domain.
  4. Under More Options:

    Port: 21 for FTP, 22 for SFTP

    Protocol: FTP

    Remote Path (optional): Please see System Paths

    Local Path (optional): N/A

    Root URL (optional): http://mt-example.com

    Please check Use passive mode for data transfers

  5. Click Save and double-click the bookmark to connect.
