How do I install WordPress using the 1-Click Applications tool?
Overview
WordPress is a state-of-the-art blogging platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. Using our 1-Click installer in the AccountCenter is the easiest way to start blogging today. You can also view a video of this installation made by WordPress themselves at wordpress.tv.
Before you start
If you would like to install WordPress on your primary domain or any other already existing domain on your (gs), be sure to read the prompts on the screen as they appear.
READ ME FIRST
(mt) Media Temple only supports the basic operation of our 1-Click installer, not the WordPress application. Please consult our Scope of Support for further details. You should also be aware of the following:
- The WordPress version used in the guide below may not reflect the most recent version available in the AccountCenter.
-
Recent versions of WordPress, version 2.7 and later, feature an Automatic Upgrade. Click here for more information. You can launch the automatic upgrade by clicking the link in the new version banner or by going to the Tools -> Upgrade menu. After that, it should be straightforward. See Figure 1 as an example.

Automatic Upgrades do fail sometimes though, so remember to backup your database first, and deactivate your plugins before starting the upgrade.

Application URL (without 'www.'): This is the website path. Enter the domain or subdomain you wish to use.
NOTE:
DO NOT USE WWW. The www is not required as WordPress is smart enough to load your website at http://www.example.com. If you would like your site to always load with the www, then you can set that within the site url settings from the WordPress admin panel.
TIP:
If the domain you want to use is not yet pointing to your (gs) Grid-Service, go ahead and enter it; then view the site via your access domain. Once DNS propagation is complete, you can update the URL in your WordPress Dashboard by going to Settings > General. More info here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_SubPanel.
-
Database Configuration: Please select new... from the dropdown and give your database a unique name that will allow you to know it is WordPress, and with which domain it is associated.
- example: wp_example
- Database Table Prefix: Please provide a table prefix that will allow you to remember which domain your WordPress database is associated to. We suggest to have it end with a underscore for easier reading in phpMyAdmin.
- example: wp_example_
-
Application URL (without 'www.'): This is the website path. Enter the domain or subdomain you wish to use.
-
After the Pending Installation "state" completes, click on Finish.
NOTE:
If you try to access the domain before finishing the installation of WordPress, you will be redirected to the AccountCenter. This security measure prevents others from finishing your installation and gaining administrator access to your WordPress site.
-
Provide your Blog Title as it will appear on your website and a valid email address. Then click Install WordPress, see Figure 6.

FAQs
Q: Can I use the WordPress 1-Click installer on more than one domain or subdomain?

Jetpack is now pre-bundled.
Since March 2011, all (gs) 1-Click installs of WordPress are pre-bundled with Jetpack.
What is Jetpack?
Jetpack is a WordPress plugin that supercharges your self-hosted WordPress site with the awesome cloud power of WordPress.com.
